This S2000 owner didn't want to remove and/or cut up his dash upper so he simply bent the down bars around. Fuck strength and good construction, get style
Bamboo is a very strong material. It makes panda bears grow big and strong. The twine makes for very solid fastening method. It's great that the owner made the beads match it. Supremely nice touch
Snap How To is an irregular series of life hacks

I think that bamboo one is an actual metal cage that has been painted. Regardless it does look really cool.

The bamboo is clearly a joke, but that s2000...

How about No to that, Giligan? It looks cool but I'll stick with steel tubes and welds.

It looks more like bamboo to me, I can see the little bumps on the bars. If it's metal, then it's extremely well painted.

I doubt it. Just look at the shitty fitment at the roof.... No half decent roll bar will leave that much clearance to the roof

Dammit, you know nothing! bamboo is lighter.... adding lightness is the only way to go, simpleton!

Except a ghetto one that your buddy made for a case of beer.

Just looked at it on my computer not my phone, looks a lot like bamboo. Still looks cool. Would be cool to see the rest of the car if they gave it the treatment.

I don't know what kind of company you keep but that's definitely not the kind I do......

Roll Cage: effective 99% of the time....will probably only fail if the car rolls.

thanks for this good reply sir.

Also bad:

I don't make roll cages, nor do any of my friends. But there is always "that guy" that someone some how knows that will do it "on the low low."
I personally would never get a ghetto cage since it basically is what is going to save your life in a rollover.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 21:53 |

No, those are good... In fact they're perfect..... no useless weight of a roll bar and all the security of ball-busting 5-pt harnesses!
![]() 02/27/2014 at 21:54 |

Or just make your race car out of Bamboo.

exactly!

But roll cage, homes! Do you even track day, bro?

What if you want a spine shaped like this?
![]() 02/27/2014 at 21:56 |

It's a Chromoly Cusco rollcage.

edit: sorry I linked the wrong one, new link is for S2000
![]() 02/27/2014 at 21:56 |

It's not even a cage.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 21:57 |
|
Half cage, just a roll bar. A cage goes around the dash/windshield but it's all the same thing to me.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 21:59 |
|
It's a show piece. Might be legal for some racing but certainly not one that takes safety very seriously.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 22:01 |

And can kill you in an accident on the street.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 22:01 |

Adding lightness isn't that important, and I blame that fucking tea drinker Chapman for putting the idea in people's heads! I'll go faster the 'Murican way, by adding a supercharger and a cage made from good ol 'Murican steel.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 22:01 |

It's a broken pic, but your point still stands actually.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 22:03 |

'murica
![]() 02/27/2014 at 22:09 |

that may be the case (I can't find any reviews or stories on how they've faired in a crash),
but it isn't simply some Honda fanboy who bent his rollcage around the dash.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 22:09 |

Fucking exposed fasteners...
![]() 02/27/2014 at 22:09 |

True. I can't speak for anything but the NHRA at this point, and they would certainly not pass this.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 22:13 |

Fuck yeah
![]() 02/27/2014 at 22:14 |

That there bamboo is some Hawaiian Style, brah.
Might point out that timber bamboos aren't your normal. In Asia that use them for scaffolding that goes up 15-20 stories. The culms are almost solid, with maybe a #2 pencil hole in the middle. Get a 4" solid bamboo piece, appropriately braced, and although *I* wouldn't trust it, it's not the "bamboo" we think of. (Google 'images of bamboo scaffolding' to see how deep the rabbit hole goes on this one.)
![]() 02/27/2014 at 22:16 |
|
I thought NHRA required all cages to be welded in anyway? This is a bolt-in.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 22:20 |
|
Yes, they do, but you could always weld it in.
This also has no proper crossbar, no door bars, bends in tubing that compromise safety, and probably other stuff I am not seeing.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 22:32 |
|
Wait, people actually install roll cages for show?
![]() 02/27/2014 at 22:34 |
|
![]() 02/27/2014 at 22:36 |
|
yeah fair enough. I know Cusco make the 8-point dash through version also.
This is probably fine if you get the harness bar and take an otherwise stock S2000 to an autocross or trackday bro.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 22:44 |
|
Yes, you have a chassis rigidity benefit and you won't be crashing into anything unless something goes very, very wrong.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 22:47 |
|
It's the straw floors that really complete the setup.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 22:49 |

Of all the guns in this picture, only 1 was designed by an American.
![]() 02/27/2014 at 23:03 |

I kinda wonder if you can even hit the start button with that cage there, and the door shut. It's definitely in the way of a few buttons/switches.
![]() 02/28/2014 at 00:56 |

Oh god yes
![]() 02/28/2014 at 07:16 |

Accordion.
